Red River Balloon event kicks off on Friday

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The time is here. The Raising Cane's Red River Balloon Rally begin Friday, July 13th at 5 p.m. The Rally will also take place July 14th, starting at 5 p.m.

The U.S. Nationals Competition took place Friday morning and they will fly again tomorrow morning trying to reach specific targets.  The Top 40  Pilots from all over the country will fly and display their balloons at the LSU Shreveport campus.

Kalie Pluchel got a chance to go up in a hot air balloon with pilot, Pat Harwell and experience the calmness of the sky. Harwell is very excited for this weekend and when asked about his favorite part of ballooning he said this, "The kids will come out and remember this for months. They got souvenir cards and my crew got to help them out. That's the best part of ballooning."

At the Balloon Rally, there will be tethered hot air balloon rides, food, craft vendors, balloon glow, live music, a Kids Fun Zone and fireworks to cap off the evening.

Aly Velasquez of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourism Bureau talked about how exciting this event is, "There's going to be a lot of hot air balloons and there's going to be balloon glow. I heard that some Star Wars characters are going to be showing up today (Friday, July 13).  There's also going to be tethered balloon rides. There's going to be lots of great music, lots of really great food, and lots of really awesome local vendors. So make sure y'all come out and have a great time!"
