Fire damages Shreveport apartment, displaces 9 people

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Fire heavily damaged the home of five adults and four children.

It happened during a rainstorm at 12:02 p.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of Fullerton Street in Shreveport, Caddo 911 dispatch records show.

That's immediately west of North Market Street and north of North Hearne Avenue.

Firefighters found flames and heavy smoke coming from a second-floor unit at Villa Norte Apartments when they arrived at 12:06 p.m.

The family who lived in the apartment already had escaped without injury.

The 27 firefighters had the fire under control in less than 12 minutes.

A first-floor apartment sustained minor water and smoke damage as a result of the fire and firefighting efforts.

Authorities still are investigating the cause of the fire.

Meantime, the American Red Cross has been notified about the family's situation.
