Texarkana hotel closed following bedbug infestation

Bedbugs prompt closure of Texarkana, TX, hotel

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) - A Texarkana Texas hotel has shut its doors after officials say that the building is infested.

The City of Texarkana, Texas has taken code enforcement action at the Wyndham Garden, 5301 N. Stateline Ave for a bed bug infestation.

Enforcement action was taken around noon on Tuesday. Violations were documented last week after inspections were conducted following complaints.

Owners were told to not rent out the rooms until a reinspection could occur, however, the rooms were again rented out.

"The health and safety of our residents and visitors to Texarkana is of paramount importance to us," said Lisa Thompson, public information officer for the city, in a news release. "We want to ensure that all our businesses are operating to the health and safety standards outlined in our code and expected by our Code Enforcement officers. While this may be inconvenient for customers, the public's wellbeing is our priority."

City inspectors will work with the hotel's owners to ensure code compliance before it can reopen. Guests were asked to relocate from the hotel.
