SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport police are investigating a shooting incident that left a 3-year-old boy injured.
It happened on Flournoy Lucas Road just before 8 o'clock Saturday morning.
Investigators say the young child picked up the loaded gun after his mother, Chelsie Hamm, 27, said she briefly set the weapon down.
The child then reportedly discharged the weapon, striking himself in the arm.
Investigators believe Hamm was sleeping outside of the home on the front porch and left the gun unsecured inside of the home with three small children inside.
Hamm was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of Illegal Use of a Weapon.
Child protection was notified.
