BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Some young potential lawyers were roaming the East Baton Rouge District Attorney's Office on Wednesday.

Middle schoolers participated in this year's Junior District Attorney program.

They got to spend time with attorneys and learn all about the criminal justice system - police department, mayor's office, and even a demonstration of crime scene investigating.

Attorneys said it's important that even if these kids don't become lawyers, they understand how our legal system works.

"Students had an opportunity to go out to the crime lab, they had an opportunity to go out to city court, to go to district court and they meet so many different people and the educational aspects of it are wonderful that I think they actually get to develop and then sometimes, even the networking even at this young age," said William Jordan, an assistant district attorney.

Once they complete the program, students get a pin from District Attorney Hillar Moore himself.
