Just two years removed from re-emerging as Shreveport's premiere hockey team, the Mudbugs are atop the NAHL world after defeating Minot, 2-1, in the Robertson Cup championship Monday night in Blaine, Minnesota.
It is the first Robertson Cup in team history.
After falling behind midway through the first period, the 'Bugs offense would come to life in the second. Brendan VanSweden's goal midway through the frame knotted the game at 1 after two periods of play.
Just four minutes into the third, Cole Quisenberry's re-direction off a Dominick Procopio slapshot found it's way in the back on the net to put Shreveport up for good.
Jaxon Castor was named tournament MVP after recording 15 saves in the win while allowing only two goals in the team's three games over the weekend.
