SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Shreveport will gain hundreds of jobs with the opening of an aircraft maintenance facility at its main airport.

Florida-based cargo freight carrier Western Global Airlines has selected Shreveport Regional as the hub for maintaining its 16 Boeing 747s and McDonnell Douglas MD-11s.

The project announced Tuesday by Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and Western Global founder and CEO James Neff will create 170 jobs with an average salary of more than $45,200 a year plus benefits.

Louisiana Economic Development estimates it also will result in the creation of 308 indirect jobs, for a total of more than 475 new jobs in Northwest Louisiana.

A job fair is planned later this month.

The Shreveport facility will consolidate the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul functions Western Global had outsourced at multiple locations.
