SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A man is fighting for his life after police say he was run over by a train Sunday night.
It happened just before 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Mansfield Road and Midway Avenue.
The man, identified as 32-year-old Derrick Mack was allegedly on the railroad tracks when he was struck by the southbound train. Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in why the man was on tracks.
The train operator reportedly saw something on the tracks and tried to stop the train. Once it came to a stop that's when he discovered Mack and called 911.
Police say Mack's legs were severed and he was taken to a Shreveport hospital with life-threatening injuries.
At last check, police say Mack was in surgery but investigators plan on following up with him for more information about the crash.
