MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Montgomery police are investigating after a man suspected of robbing a business was shot and killed by the store's employee Sunday.

According to Capt. Regina Duckett, Donnelle L Jackson, 32, is the subject of a death investigation.

Duckett says around 7:30 p.m. officers were called to the 3200 block of Mobile Highway after a call of a business robbery. An employee of the business was said to have fired a weapon at an armed suspect who then ran from the store.

Shortly after arriving, medics and officers were called to the 3100 block of Bozeman Drive after a call that a man had been shot. The man, later identified as Jackson, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation identified Jackson as the suspect in the Mobile Highway business robbery. Duckett says the investigation also indicated that Jackson sustained the fatal gunshot wound during the commission of the robbery.

Normally an individual who is the subject of a death investigation is not identified publicly. Duckett says an exception is made when the investigation determines the subject would have faced criminal charges if survived.

The investigation into the robbery and shooting remain under investigation.
