Man arrested after robbing Central West End ice cream shop, attacking employee

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Authorities arrested a 52-year-old man who robbed an Central West End ice cream parlor and attacked an employee Tuesday.

Police said Rodney Gardner walked into Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams and demanded money from the cashier. After the employee refused, Gardner allegedly punched her in the face repeatedly.

After the attack, Gardner fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

Officers located Gardner hiding near Kingshighway Blvd and McPherson Ave and took him into custody after a short foot pursuit.

Gardner was charged with one count of second degree robbery, one count of assault and resisting arrest.
