Four families that suffered losses had their spirits lifted right before Christmas.
The sound of sirens rang out as Jefferson Parish deputies along with Santa stopped by to see several families on the East and West banks.
"I lost my daughter this time last year, and he just lost his father in June, so things have been really hectic," Patricia Aaron said.
Interim Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said this is their first annual "Blue Christmas" Toy Drive for families who have had a difficult year.
One of their stops was the family of fallen Westwego Police Officer Michael Louviere, who was killed in January while assisting in what he thought was a traffic accident.
"His family is having their first Christmas without their husband and father here. You know they're in a tough time, they're not going to have the Christmas that they thought they were going to have," Lopinto said.
Deputies also collected more than 300 toys from the community to donate to the Ronald McDonald House and a local women's shelter.
"We struggle this time every year, and we couldn't be more happy. It made our Christmas very special," Aaron said.
