Southern University head coach, Dawson Odums, has added ten new Jaguars so far on early signing day.
The Jaguars finished the 2017 season with a 7-4 overall record and 5-2 in SWAC play.
This is Odums' sixth class since having his interim tag removed in 2012. He anticipates revealing mid-semester enrollees when spring semester classes begin in January.
The ten new signees, who inked National Letters of Intent, feature two wide receivers, two defensive linemen, one tight end, and one defensive back. In all, only two of the ten new Jaguars are under 6 feet tall.
SU looked to address their need for more dynamic playmakers on the edge with this class, signing on the three new wide receivers and one tight end.
On special teams, SU signed kicker Martell Fontenot of Zachary, who claimed Louisiana's Class 5A title this year. Another of the new recruits, Jamel Byrd, played Hahnville in the championship game against Zachary.
For the first time in three years, SU will hold spring football in April, with the first game tentatively scheduled for April 21.
