Harrison County Sheriff’s deputies are warning residents about a new scam involving police K-9 donations.
Authorities say someone who sounds very authoritative is calling residents and asking for donations. The caller says the donations will help buy drug trained dogs to replace the old ones who were, "all being retired due to their age."
In one instance, deputies say the caller called an active officer’s home and spoke to his wife. When she pressed them for more information, the caller reportedly hung up.
According to deputies, if you voluntarily give the caller money, you will most likely be unable to recover it.
