LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A new patient and caregiver support group is coming to Lake Charles, with its first meeting to be held on Sunday, April 23rd at 2pm in the conference room at Jason’s Deli located at 3527 Ryan St. in Lake Charles.

Local volunteers will lead the support group which is affiliated with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, a non-profit organization whose mission is to find a cure for Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis through funding medical research.

There is no known cause of Crohn’s Disease or ulcerative colitis which are both autoimmune diseases that cause the body to attack its own digestive track, leading to debilitating abdominal pain and make for great difficulty in living a normal life.

The right education along with support from others and proper treatment from your doctor can make these diseases more manageable.

This new local group will offer support to those who seek it and plans to meet regularly throughout the year in Lake Charles.

KPLC’s morning meteorologist Ben Terry, who was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis over a decade ago, is one of the founding members of the local support group and looks forward to helping others in the community that cope with these two diseases by providing support they may need along with other volunteers from the community.
