TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

A man wanted in Washington state for failure to register as a sex offender and possession of child pornography lead East Texas officials on a manhunt after a traffic stop in Bowie County.

Police took 29 year old, Michael Shayne Basham, of Aledo,Texas into custody Wednesday afternoon.

The search started just before 1 p.m. near Highway 59 and Rendle Road in Texarkana, TX.

During the search, the nearby Liberty-Eylau Primary School was placed on "lockout" meaning that no one was able to exit or enter while the search for the suspect was underway.

Deputies say they pulled over a truck for a routine traffic stop when the passenger, identified as 29-year-old Michael Shane Basham got out and took off on foot.

K-9 units from Telford's Prison were called in to assist with the search.

Less than thirty minutes after the dogs entered the woods, Basham was located and cuffed.

"The brush was really thick, the dog kept getting closer and the guy kept jumping and running hiding in brush, until eventually he got into an open
area where a Nash Police Officer was able to take him into custody," said Trooper Jason Green, Texas Department of Public Safety.
