Barksdale Air Force Base was the site of a memorial service Tuesday afternoon for an airman who died as a result of an ATV accident.
Staff Sgt. Kelsey Reed died after the wreck during a predeployment party in East Texas near the Oklahoma line.
Airmen and Reed's family members and friends gathered in Hoban Hall for the service that included a slideshow of photographs, prayer and the presentation of colors and the Air Force Commendation Medal.
The Base Chapel choir sang "Amazing Grace."
Reed was assigned to Barksdale Air Force Base in March 2013 as part of the 2nd Medical Operations Squadron.
Speakers during Tuesday's ceremony remembered her as an outstanding medical technician.
Base officials described her as an honest and very academic person who loved cross fit.
"Working with her, she was an outstanding airman," Lt. Col. David Walmsley said.
"She was the airman everyone went to when they had a question. She was not only an outstanding airman, but an outstanding individual."
Reed also was a big part of the community at Barksdale and at her family's home in Texas," he added.
"It's been tough over the last week and a half," Walmsley said.
"It's difficult because the mission must go on. And you can tell people are hurting. But, at the same time, they are going out there and doing a great job."
