According to Cullen Fire Chief Thomas C. Arnold, firefighters got a call at 10:00 p.m. Monday about the fire at 1008 Henrietta in Cullen. When they arrived on the scene a few minutes later, they say flames could be seen shooting through the roof of the church.

As the wooden roof began to give way, firefighters took a defensive approach. Nearly 50 firefighters in all were called to the scene from Springhill, Shongaloo, NE Bossier and Cotton Valley.

Firefighters got the fire under control within an hour; however, most of the roof had collapsed.

The state fire marshal is on the scene as the investigation into what caused the fire begins.

According to the church’s Facebook post, the church has been in operation since 1938.
