NATCHITOCHES PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

See something suspicious?

Report it to law enforcement.

That's the advice of authorities in Natchitoches Parish and elsewhere.

And it holds true for a container recently seen on a Natchitoches Parish lake.

Long. Narrow. White.

It caught people's attention on social media.

Someone posted a photograph showing it float past a couple fishing on Sibley Lake east of the Louisiana Highway 504 bridge near Wilkerson Road.

Was it a toolbox? A casket?

Concerned citizens' speculation about the latter possibility prompted Natchitoches sheriff's deputies to investigate.

What they found when they took a boat out the morning of April 14 was far less suspicious than had been imagined.

It proved to be an empty plastic storage container about 8 feet long and 16 inches wide.

Such containers commonly are tied to a dock and used to store fishing rods and reels and other miscellaneous items.

Authorities think this one got loose from its docking point and floated away.

Mystery solved.

Authorities still encourage people to report anything suspicious by calling the sheriff's office at (318) 352-6432.
