Brother of 12-year-old thought to be shot in the head arrested

NATCHITOCHES, LA (KSLA) -

Natchitoches police have arrested the brother of a 12-year-old who was originally thought to have been shot in the head on April 8.

Police say after further examination it was determined that the 12-year-old was not shot, but was hit with an object and suffered from blunt force trauma. The victim was taken to University Health where he is in stable but critical condition as of Thursday night.

The victim's brother, 18-year-old Braylan Bayonne was arrested in connection to the case. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder and taken to the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center. 

The incident, originally believed to be a shooting, happened in the 500 block of Klaire Circle in Natchitoches was reported shortly after 10 p.m. April 8, police say.

A woman called police after a neighbor knocked on her door and said his brother had been hurt. It is unclear if the neighbor who knocked on her door was Bayonne who was later arrested.
