SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport police have released the name of the man who died after being run over by a van he reportedly was trying to start.

He is 66-year-old Leon Harvey Jr.

The accident happened just before 1:30 p.m. in 400 block of Woodrow Avenue.

A 1997 Ford van somehow jumped out of gear and began backing out of the driveway of a residence there, police Cpl. Marcus Hines said.

Harvey became caught in the driver’s side door.

"It appears the vehicle backed over the man, trapping him underneath briefly before the vehicle came to a rest near the yard next door," police Cpl. Marcus Hines said.

Harvey was taken to University Health, where he was pronounced dead.

The exact cause of the accident has yet to be determined.
