MILLER COUNTY, AR (KSLA) -

A Southwest Arkansas man must serve six years prison for videotaping himself engaging in sexual activity with animals.

Ryan Danyl McDonald, 39, of Fouke, Ark., pleaded guilty inside a Miller County courtroom Tuesday to charges of possessing and distributing obscene film.

"There were 27 videos of him engaging in sexual intercourse with horses and dogs," said Connie Mitchell, Miller County deputy prosecuting attorney.

Miller County officials said this is the first time they've dealt with this type of crime.

"I would say the videos were very disturbing, I've never had to prosecute this type of case before," Mitchell said.

Officials say the case began when someone reported a suspicious person near their property.

Deputies found McDonald.

And when investigators searched his phone, they discovered the videos.

It's material Mitchell said she's glad she did not have to show to a jury.

"I just didn't want the citizens, 12 of the citizens, of Miller County to have to watch such disturbing images. I am pleased he accepted responsibility for his actions."

Mitchell described the videos as extremely graphic and said McDonald shared more than a dozen of them with other people.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison, with half of the term suspended.
