AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

Perhaps the biggest question of not only A-Day but spring practice itself was whether or not transfer QB Jarrett Stidham was the real deal. He certainly looked the part in Saturday’s spring game.

Auburn’s recent transfer from Baylor played well in his debut in front of the Tiger faithful, completing 16-of-20 passes for 267 yards. He also had a rushing touchdown when Kam Martin fumbled inside the 10-yard line.

Stidham scooped up the loose ball and ran it in himself.

“I thought he managed the offense well,” head coach Gus Malzahn said of Stidham after the spring game. “I thought he protected the football, that’s really where it starts, number one thing and it was good for him to get out in front of the crowd. He hasn’t been out in front of a crowd playing football in a long time so I think overall it was good for him.”

Stidham sat out the 2016 season while deciding where to transfer when he left Baylor last summer.

He didn’t appear rusty Saturday. Stidham and freshman QB Malik Willis combined for 378 yards for the “Blue” team in the spring game.

Kerryon Johnson led the rushing attack with 47 yards and a score. He and the rest of the Blue team rushed for 149 yards and four touchdowns.

It was a breakout game for wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers. He had 154 yards receiving, more than twice the amount of the guy behind him.

While the offense was on display, defensively they were solid as well, with the “White” team forcing three fumbles and recovering two.

Auburn’s spring isn’t over yet. They’ll have one more practice on Tuesday to wrap things up before they return in the fall.
