SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A Shreveport-based brewer is releasing a special brew as a tribute to Willis-Knighton Health System's proton therapy center.
It is Bragg Peak.
"When we started our journey with Red River Brewing, one of the core values we established was to celebrate not only the rich history and culture of our home, but also all of the great and wonderful things that are happening right now," brewery co-founder Beau Raines said.
"We're excited to have an opportunity to showcase our products to the world in a manner that celebrates and international achievement of our neighbors."
Bragg Peak's Belgian style is an obvious nod to the roots of the proton center's technology, said Jared Beville, managing partner at Red River Brewing. "And golden strong ale is in recognition of all those touched by this horrible disease.
"We've all been affected by cancer, whether it is a personal experience or a close family member," he continued. "Fighting cancer takes incredible courage and strength. And this is our tribute to each of you."
The name Bragg Peak comes from the scientific term for how protons deposit high doses of radiation in a tumor.
