SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Caddo School District is recruiting teachers in East Texas.

A job fair is underway from 4 to 6:30 p.m. today at the Marshall Visual Arts Center, 208 E. Burleson St. in Marshall, Texas.

"Teaching is a great field to go into; it's very rewarding," said Karen Peace, a recruiter with Caddo School District. "We want you to come and join the field of teaching and come and enjoy that with us."

School District officials hope to bring in certified teachers for the next academic year.

Staffers are at the Marshall venue to speak with people who are interested and have resumes in hand.

Caddo has teaching openings in a variety of certification areas, including elementary and secondary education with critical needs in math, science, English and special education.

School District officials say they are offering a competitive salary and benefits package as well as extensive professional development programs.

Those programs are expected to begin in seven schools this fall.

Teachers at the job fair will be able to learn more about these programs as well as a newly established incentive pay plan that offers additional compensation for educators who choose to teach in a variety of situations, including work in the district's target schools or in a hard-to-staff area.

"Come over to the Marshall Visual Arts Center, we're going to have team over there," Peace said. "Bring your resume, and come visit with us on how we can bring you over to Shreveport."
