(KSLA) - "My grandma, she always preached to me that school comes first and basketball comes second."
It may be cliche, but it's an old adage to the younger generation that still remains true today.
That's what is special about Northwood point guard JaMichael Bryant, however. He truly loves the game but, in reality, it isn't his passion at day's end. It's right behind his career aspirations of working in pharmaceuticals.
"Being in the pharmacy, I'd see different things everyday so I just wanna help the community and stuff out," Bryant said.
It's one thing to help his teammates look good on the floor from his point guard position, but it's another to put smiles on people's faces. It is a true love in his pursuit of excellence.
"I take a lot of pride in what I'm doing. I try my best to stay humble and work hard for what I want."
Part of that modesty is the reality that life has a lot of twists and turns. He's ready to embrace the coming road ahead.
"Just to see what I'm gonna have to do to get to where I'm going, I'm excited. I'm really not nervous about it."
