SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport man faces up to 198 years in prison for robbing a convenience store of about $150.

Charles Edward Mays Jr., 42, is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 26 in Caddo District Court.

A four-man, eight-woman jury deliberated for just more than 90 minutes today then unanimously found him guilty of 1 count of armed robbery.

May robbed the Circle K at Jefferson-Paige at Pines roads in west Shreveport on April 25, 2015. Surveillance video shows him going behind the counter and shoving a gun wrapped in a bandanna into a clerk's neck. Mays took about $150 from the cash register then left.

Fingerprints that crime scene investigators took from the store were matched to Mays. He was booked into Caddo Correctional Center on Aug. 18, 2015.

The penalty for armed robbery is 10 to 99 years in prison.

Mays, however, faces the possibility of a longer sentence.

That's because of an arrest Feb. 14, 2004.

"He is a multi-offender (with a) prior attempted armed robbery," said Caddo Assistant District Attorney John Aaron Crawford, who helped prosecute Mays. "If he is successfully multi-billed, it can be up to double the maximum."
