GREENWOOD, LA (KSLA) -
Newly installed cable barriers are being credited for preventing a violent head-on collision Friday night on Interstate 20.
The single-vehicle wreck happened at mile marker 4 in Greenwood.
Greenwood police told KSLA News 12's Doug Warner that the car was headed west when its driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross the grassy median.
But it was snagged by the cable barriers, which caused the car to spin around and kept it from hitting eastbound vehicles.
Warner has reported extensively over the past few years about the need for lifesaving cable barriers on interstates throughout Northwest Louisiana. This stretch of barriers just east of the Texas-Louisiana line is one of the first to be installed after our series of reports.
The driver in Friday night's wreck escaped with only minor injuries.
