On August 6, Chef Alex Eaton of Jackson, Mississippi was crowned the 2016 King of American Seafood by Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board.
The 13th Annual Great American Seafood Cook-Off was held in New Orleans at the Ernst M. Morial Convention Center. To earn the crown, Eaton prepared a trio of Gulf shrimp (New Orleans BBQ Gulf Brown, Mediterranean Gulf White, and Florida Royal Red). He beat out ten other chefs with his creativity and craftsmanship.
"This was a tough battle and Chef Eaton's imaginative approach to Gulf Shrimp truly showcases why domestic seafood is one of the most flavorful and healthy ways to enjoy a meal. Congratulations to all of today's competitors for presenting top notch dishes, and to Chef Eaton who should wear this crown with great pride and accomplishment," said Nungesser.
WAFB's own Johnny Ahysen was one of the celebrity hosts at the event. The dishes were scored by six national judges.
