Many questions for Kirby Smart at SEC Media Days

HOOVER, AL (WTVM) - Time for the Georgia Bulldogs to take the Podium here at SEC Media Days.

It's Kirby Smart's first go-round as head coach of the Bulldogs and not surprisingly, he was the main subject of a lot of the questions for both him and the players.

A lot of people wondering just how he's handling that turnover from Mark Richt last year to this season. Guys like Jeb Blazevich said they're not focused on that yet.

"Obviously I loved coach Richt, and I wish the best for him,” he said. “I'm just focused on the here and now. So once again I can talk about coach Smart, like I said, he's an awesome coach to play for and I'm happy I get to play for him."

Smart's new job comes with increased pressure, especially after the last guy was let go despite the Bulldogs posting a 10-win season.

"The pressure to win began in December to be honest with you,” Smart said. “That pressure never goes. I promise you I'll put more pressure on myself to win than any fan will or any member of the Dawg nation will."

Several challenging decisions await the new Bulldog leader, most of them on offense. He says fall camp will help him make those decisions.

“We've got to find out now, not in the season, and this is the time to do it,” Smart said. “There are question marks all around this team in my opinion.

One of those question marks…who will carry the ball in the opening game? Injuries to Nick Chubb and Sony Michel opens the door for guys like Tae Crowder.

"He's going to have to help us. He, Brendan Douglas, the freshman we just got. Those two guys, we've got to have a running back by committee, should those other guys not be available."

The Bulldogs open the season against North Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Georgia Dome. Kickoff set for 5:30 p.m.
