SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A man who was the subject of a welfare concern Saturday evening is in custody and likely will be taken in for evaluation, authorities say.
Officers summoned to an area a block south of Byrd High in Shreveport were greeted by gunshots fired into the air and admonishments against coming any nearer to a residence where the man was in the backyard, police said.
Authorities recovered a long rifle with a bayonet when they apprehended the man sometime around 10 p.m. He caused no harm to himself or others other than a few minor scrapes when he was taken into custody, police said.
According to the Shreveport Police Department major incident report, the man was taken to emergency commitment at University Health. The MRI did not show any charges.
Parts of a couple streets remain closed at this hour while officers check the residence to see if anyone else is inside.
Twenty-seven police units responded to the residence in the 500 block of Stephenson Street, Caddo 911 dispatch records show.
The dispatch log says the welfare concern was reported at 8:23 p.m.
The closed streets are the 600 block of Stephenson Street and the 3400 block of Creswell.
