Weather Wonders: Mild winter

(KSLA) -

Tuesday marked the start of meteorological Spring, and that has had many people on Facebook and Twitter questioning whether we even had a real winter. About this time last year, there was measurable snowfall and some icy conditions across much of the region. However, winter weather events like this usually occur on average once every other year.

We call March the start of meteorological Spring because the 3 coldest months generally are December, January and February. January, as expected, was the coldest month this year; but it was about a degree warmer than average. December was very mild with the high temperatures 10 degrees above average. February also ran slightly warmer, at about 5 degrees above average.

Although many agree it felt very mild this winter, it was only about 5 degrees above average this season.
