Bossier Parish to have sandbags available Friday and Saturday

BOSSIER PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

Bossier Parish residents and business owners need not worry if they need sandbags this holiday weekend.

The Police Jury will have a crew available from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the parish highway department barn, 410 Mayfield St. in Benton, and perhaps Sunday to help those who want to pick up sandbags.

“We thought it would be wise to provide workers to assist anyone who needs sandbags over the holiday period,” Parish Administrator Bill Altimus said. “We will make a decision later on whether we will have workers at the location Sunday.”

Area bayous and streams are high but have not spread beyond their watersheds, parish officials say.

Residents along the banks of Lake Bistineau have been urged to keep an eye on the water level there as a precaution.

“We’re constantly monitoring the water levels in Bayou Bodcau, Red Chute Bayou, Loggy Bayou, Lake Bistineau and other streams and bayous just to be sure,” Altimus said. “We believe we should be proactive and err on the side of safety.”
