Jury selection put on hold in Texarkana liquor store lawsuit

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Jury selection in a wrongful death lawsuit against the owners of a Texarkana liquor store has been put on hold after a key witness's death.

The family of 28-year-old Josh Bishop is suing liquor store owners Allen Rogers and Lane Rogers and a store employee. The lawsuit claims the three handcuffed and assaulted Bishop and Westly Attaway in January 2014 and that Bishop's injuries led to his death a month later.

The defendants say they were trying to recover stolen liquor, and that Bishop's death was due to prescription drug overdose.

The Texarkana Gazette (http://bit.ly/1OwIU8Q ) reports Attaway was killed in a confrontation with a security guard in early December in Shreveport, Louisiana. A judge has scheduled a Jan. 7 hearing in the lawsuit, saying a new trial date will be set.
