SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport Fire Department K9 Search and Rescue unit was called in Tuesday to sniff around a building that partially collapsed after strong storms rolled through the area.

The brick building at Jordan Street at Southern Avenue was believed to be vacant, with both exterior doors locked and secured.

Still, authorities want to check to make sure no one was inside at the time the walls caved in, while also taking the opportunity to do some training.

The cadaver dogs were called in because it's unsafe for people to be inside.

There were 3 K9s on the scene, including 2 trained to detect human remains and one trained in live search and rescue.

They say the dogs did not pick up on any human scent, alive or otherwise.

It's not known yet whether the weather played a role in the collapse.
