HAUGHTON, LA (KSLA) -

A Haughton home was heavily damaged during Tuesday's storms when several trees came crashing down with the homeowner and his young son inside.

It happened in the 100 block of Hickory Hollow off of Chandler Rd. and Highway 80.

Gelenn Dowden says he they were only home because his son was sick.

When things got eerily quiet just before 1 p.m., he says he told his son to head to an inside hallway.

Just as he joined the boy in the hall, 5 trees in the backyard came down. Two of them slammed into the house, one of them right in the

middle of the roof, causing heavy damage.

Dowden spent the day removing the trees and cutting them up in an effort to make way for plastic sheeting to protect the home from more rain.

No one was injured, and Dowden says he is most thankful for that.

He says has insurance, so the damage will be covered.

Another tree at the a neighbor's house also came down, taking out their mailbox.
