SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A Shreveport firefighter was injured while fighting an early morning blaze at a South Shreveport dollar store.
It happened at the Dollar General in the 8900 block of Walker Rd. Saturday just after 3 a.m.
The first fire crews arrived at 3:26 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming out of the building.
Additional crews were called in because the fire involved a large commercial building.
According to the Shreveport Fire Department, firefighters tried to get into the building for an "offensive attack," but were pushed back from the heat produced from the heavy fire load inside.
Defensive operations were set up with large volume of water being placed on the fire from two ladder truck companies.
The fire was brought under control at 6:50 AM.
One firefighter was treated at a local hospital for what was described as a minor injury.
The building suffered heavy fire damage. However, SFD says firefighters were able to save a business next door by preventing the fire from spreading.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
