Man booked with shooting at police

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Authorities in New Orleans say an 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after shots were fired at police officers in the Uptown area.

Nola.comThe Times-Picayune reports ( ) Heron George was booked with attempted first-degree murder and other charges.

Police spokesman Frank Robertson says the officers were not injured.

Officers say they were checking on a report of a suspicious person on Clara Street about 10 p.m. when shots were fired at them.

Robertson says a police dog cornered George nearby and a weapon was recovered.

In addition to the attempted murder charges, George was booked with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of crack cocaine and on a probation violation.

It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
