Man celebrating upcoming wedding, now preparing for groomsman's funeral

FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) -

Drew Sykes traveled to Folly Beach for his pre-wedding celebration.  Now, the North Carolina groom is getting ready to bury his friend.

On Saturday, two of his closest friends, groomsman Justin Plumlee and best man Ryan Daniels were struck by a car while walking down West Ashley Avenue on Folly Beach between 2nd and 3rd Street.

Plumlee later died of his injuries, while the second victim, Ryan Daniels of D.C., remains in the hospital in fair condition.

Sykes recalls just how excited Plumlee was to be part of his Sept. 27 wedding.  So much, he was the only groomsman to travel with his navy blue suit for the wedding, just to make sure it was the right color.

Drew Sykes returned to his North Carolina apartment Tuesday where Plumlee's car was still parked.

He's planning a special tribute to honor Plumlee during the wedding ceremony.  This weekend, Justin will be laid to rest in his hometown of Sophia, North Carolina.

"They're family that I chose," Sykes said of Plumlee and Daniels.

Deputies arrested Andrew Lanzaro, 31, for the incident.  He's been charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury.
