FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - Members of Fort Smith's board of directors want to broadcast their meetings on the Internet, perhaps as early as this month.

The board televises its meetings on a local cable television channel. The Southwest Times Record reported Tuesday (http://bit.ly/Z66IZj ) the board intends to live-stream meetings through the city's website, if a trial run is successful.

The city's deputy city administrator, Jeff Dingman, said if people in Fort Smith don't have Cox Cable, they cannot watch the proceedings. He said someone had asked why the city wasn't distributing video of it meetings online.

The meetings would be live-streamed at www.fortsmithar.gov

The city began televising meetings in 2009 but stopped in 2011 amid budget cuts, then resumed in May 2012. Dingman said production costs total about $1,100 per meeting.
