SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport Police detectives have arrested a local man who they believe molested a 14-year-old girl over a two year period.

Back in early July, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to the 7100 block of Burlingame Boulevard for a report of a sexual assault. When they arrived, officers met the father of the victim, who told them that his daughter reported to him that she had been sexually assaulted by a family friend. Patrol officers began the investigation and notified detectives.

Shreveport Police Sex Crimes Detectives were assigned the case and in the process of investigating, interviewed the victim and her father. Police say they learned 48-year-old Fredrick L. Covington of the 4100 block of Union Street had allegedly sexually assaulted the victim at a his home.

Based on information gathered during an ongoing investigation, authorities got an arrest warrant for Covington, who surrendered to authorities Friday morning at Shreveport Police Headquarters.

Following interviews with the investigators Covington was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of molestation of a juvenile.
