BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Gov. Bobby Jindal wants to put a stop to illegal immigrants coming into Louisiana.

The US Department of Health and Human Services said some of the children, mostly from Central America, were placed with sponsors in Louisiana while they await immigration proceedings.

About 1,000 unaccompanied immigrant children are living in the state.

According to a report, 173 of them are living in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Jefferson Parish has the most with 533 and Orleans Parish is second with 237.
