Healthcare worker accused of stealing from deceased client

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -  A Region 8 in-home health care provider is accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from her deceased client.

According to court documents, Sharon Denise Yarbrough is charged with theft and second-degree forgery.

Police say she cashed 79 checks, totaling more than $46,000, from April to August. According to the probable cause affidavit, Yarbrough told police she and another woman had been home health aides for the victim.

She claimed the woman, who passed away in May 2014, gave her the checks “in case she fell on hard times.” But, Yarbrough eventually admitted the checks were forged.

Police say the other woman would write a check, and Yarbrough would cash the checks at Centennial Bank. That's when she and the other suspect split the money.

Yarbrough reportedly told investigators she didn't have any of the $46,650 because she “spent it all.”

She'll be back in court on September 26. If convicted, she could face five to 20 years in prison for the theft charge and three to ten years in prison for forgery.
