Former MDOC employee sentenced for conspiracy to defraud government

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A 30-year-old Jackson woman will spend nearly two years in prison for conspiracy to defraud the government.

Ladonna Cooper is a former employee with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

She previously pleaded guilty to stealing names and social security numbers from the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in Rankin County. The information was then used by others to file false federal tax returns.

Once Cooper serves her 20 month prison term, she will be placed on supervised release for three years and must pay the government more than $222,000 in restitution.
