Proposal looks to have feral cats neutered and released

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Companion Animal Alliance, which runs the animal shelter in East Baton Rouge Parish has a change proposed on the agenda for Wednesday's Metro Council meeting.

The CAA is asking to catch, neuter and release community cats. CAA says it will also vaccinate them against rabies.

The idea was formed because thousands of stray cats end up at the city pound, but not all are adopted.

CAA says if it neuters them and releases them back to their neighborhoods, the feral cat population will decline over time.

Councilwoman Tara Wicker is sponsoring the proposal.
