BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

It was one and done for the Benton Tigers in the playoffs last year after a first round loss to Northwood.

This year with quarterback Jordan Shaffer now gone, senior Christian Smith will now lead that spread offense.

Although, they've lost their quarterback, Benton only lost a total of 9 seniors, which means there will be a ton of experience coming back. But head coach Reynolds Moore says Smith has to realize, Jordan Shaffer is gone.

"I've talked to him a lot about not trying to be Jordan Shaffer and not worry about the fact that Jordan Shaffer was here last year and what Jordan did. Once he settles into his role and stop trying to be Jordan which I think is what he tried to do in the scrimmage Friday night I think he's going to be really good," said Moore.

Smith said "All the nerves kind of went away in the scrimmage. I played two games and got a lot of those out of the way so I'm looking forward to it."

The experience also carries over on defense as well.

Senior defensive back Shane Cram said, "We might not be athletic as some. I mean our defensive line might be one of the better ones in the district plus we have 8 returning starters and they all know the system and have been in it for a while so knowing its all instinctive instead of having to think."

Tigers open up at home against Sterling next Friday.
