WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Google doodle is honoring tennis legend Althea Gibson, who would have turned 87-years-old Monday.

Gibson became the first African American to win Wimbledon and other major tennis events. She also lived in Wilmington.

A tennis center, located at Empie Park, was named after Gibson in September of 2009.

Gibson died on September 28, 2003 in New Jersey.
