Man carjacked at gunpoint on way to meet online date in Richmond

Richmond police are searching for two suspects who carjacked a man on his way to meet up with an online date. Officers swarmed an apartment complex in the 5,800 block of West Tower Drive, Thursday afternoon. Police tended to the victim, who was held at gunpoint after he entered an apartment building. The two men then robbed him of his wallet and car, a Chevy Malibu.

It's not for certain if the victim was actually lured by the suspects to the apartment complex. Police are looking into that possibility.

Thankfully, the victim wasn't hurt. However, he and others in the neighborhood are chilled by the incident.

"It's disturbing," said April Fox, who just moved into the complex several weeks ago.

Residents say the doors to their apartment buildings are left open all the time.

"There should be more security with the locks … because we don't know who comes in and comes out," continued Fox.

Emails and calls to multiple numbers to reach the property manager, have gone unreturned, so far.

Neighbors say they do see a security guard patrolling the complex.

Police say they'll continue to canvass the neighborhood. If anyone knows anything about this crime, call Crime Stoppers at 804- 780-1000.
