SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - An elderly man is recovering in the hospital and two men are behind bars after police say the pair beat the man and robbed him of the money he won from a local casino early Thursday morning.

Just after midnight Thursday, Shreveport police officers were called to Eldorado Casino in relation to a robbery. Officers discovered the victim was a 91-year-old WWII veteran. He said he was attacked by two men.

Police say the men followed the man to a restroom, beat and robbed him of a portion of his winnings and fled on foot. They say the victim managed to injure one of the suspects during the assault. After searching downtown, police located the men in the 200 block of Texas Street and were able to link the men to the robbery.

John Perkins, 39, and 60-year-old Gary Smith, both of Shreveport, were arrested and charged with second-degree robbery. They were taken to the Shreveport City Jail. The victim was transported to University Health in Shreveport for non-life threatening injuries.
