CHALMETTE, LA (WVUE) -

St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Deputies arrested a man and woman after finding drugs, drug paraphernalia and a large sum of cash in their Chalmette home. Police say that on Tuesday, deputies responded to a call of a hit and run that occurred in Arabi, just after 5:00 p.m. An individual driving an SUV hit a light pole on St. Claude Avenue near Friscoville Avenue before driving away.

Officers obtained a description of the vehicle and found it parked near a home in the 3600 block of Jackson Boulevard. According to police, officers made contact with the homeowners after noticing synthetic marijuana inside of the SUV. Narcotics agents arrived on scene and a search warrant was obtained.

Police spoke 40-year-old Michael Adams and 41-year-old Britt Lavigne who both live at the home. Inside the home, officers found additional synthetic marijuana, as well as, 161 grams of heroin and several bottles of boric acid. Detectives believed that the acid was being used as an additive to stretch the heroin for sale. In addition, police also found 26 unmarked capsules and four cell phones.
