Man involved in shooting incident arrested on drug charges

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A Tucson man who allegedly shot and seriously injured his girlfriend's son was arrested Wednesday on drug charges, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Ronald G. Fox, 50, was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on charges of possession of dangerous drugs for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a news release, the arrest came after an investigation of an early morning shooting in the 5100 block of North Shannon Road, in which Fox allegedly shot Peter Koepnick, 26. Koepnick and his mother, who has not been identified, live in the residence with Fox.

Deputies say Koepnick was shot shortly before 1 a.m. while allegedly trying to use a baseball bat to force his way into Fox's locked bedroom. Fox fired once through the closed door with a shotgun, injuring Koepnick in the head and face, deputies say.

Koepnick was taken to the University of Arizona Medical Center, where he is in serious condition.

Sources close to the investigation say Koepnick's mother was not home at the time of the shooting incident because she was seeking medical attention because of a domestic incident. Further details were not given.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department's investigation of the shooting incident is ongoing.

“While this appears to be a crime of opportunity, it’s still poaching and theft of wildlife from the citizens of Arizona,” said Regional Supervisor Raul Vega of Game and Fish in Tucson, in a recent news release.  “It’s especially cruel, given that the javelina was pregnant.”
